So I organize my songs by date modified (in order of which I downloaded/ripped them). But for some reason when I play a song, iTunes updates the date to the current time/date. Very annoying! It doesn't happen on all songs though, only on some.

As far as I know, nothing is being changed. There are already album art on the songs itself so I know it's loading new ones.

Any ideas?

Just recently, the same thing started happening to me. But it happens for EVERY song. Now, new songs that I add to my library get lost because I organize by date modified. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Oh and another anyone side effect is that when it updates, the song skips, so about 10 seconds in on EVERY song, I get a skip.

Computer Migration

I realized this was happening to me and finally came to the conclusion that when I completely wiped and re intstalled OSX I placed my itunes folder in the location itunes natively puts it. Therefore all of my song were already in itunes the first time I opened it. When this happens itunes will update every song that it hasn't played before. Not sure what causes this, but it's likely the problem. You need to delete all of your songs in your library then re add them as from the File>Add to Library setting.

TL;DR: delete all songs in library. Re add them by File>Add to Library.
