Yeah, I found it. I was just saying it that the last sentence in the original posts, kind of already exists...

I just hope that iTunes 8 will have Transcoding of music and videos.

I like to dump CD's in loosless, but AAC 192 is fine for my iPhone

And transcode videos so I don't have to get the error This video can't be played on the device, when it has no problem in iTunes it selfs.

and/or transcode down to the resolution to fit my iPhone/iPod as HD is greast and nice for my computer screen/TV screen, but wast of space on my iPhone/iPod

Amen, brother! :D

I hope so! I hope it is improved in Windows. In Mac OS X iTunes 7 works fine, though...

Maybe support for addons and themes. I would love a better audio enhancer (like the downloadable one for Winamp - improved!) and a nice dark-and-green/blue/red interface or something.

One can only dream...

The current music recommendations are based on iTunes purchases, not on your whole library.

Nope, it's based on your current selection in iTunes library. Have you even used the feature or are you just making blind statements??? ;)

It does not seem to deal with multiple selections well(not even more than a single song). So perhaps this is what iTunes 8 will do.

iTunes doesn't make recommendations on what you have in your entire library, but it does make recommendation based on what you have bought, and what you are currently playing. Rose is saying the next iTunes will add to this by making recommendations based on what is in your entire library.

I can think of one reason the new touches might need GPS (and this is wild speculation). 3G modem in them perhaps?

What a cool idea! An iPod touch... with GPS and 3G. What would they call it... I dunno- maybe the iPhone????

I sure hope Apple sees your suggestion and acts on it- that is a whole market they are just ignoring.

Transcoding would totally rule. I would love to have a completely lossless library but still be able to put 128 KB AACs on my iPod. And perhaps they will optimize iTunes for multi-core/multi-processor machines to make the initial load happen in a reasonable amount of time.

Seconded. Currently have 2 libraries - lossless music i've imported, and some mp3. Its overkill to keep them as lossless on my iPod, but i can't be bothered to make a whole duplicate library. If Apple could do selective sync transcoding, that would be amazing. And heck, maybe some flac support? Encoding, transcoding, etc is a biggie that the upcoming Intel multi-core chips will be able to do. Would be nice to see some of it thrown iTunes way.

In regards to the transcoding (which should've been there long long ago) there is this script which I have been using for many years now. It is time/processor intensive at the start but assuming you don't regularaly wipe your music off your iPod it can do a reasonable job as a stand in.

Even works on the iPhones if you have manually manage music enabled.

Not really the same as what's ALREADY AVAILABLE for the shuffle and ROKR. As far as iTunes is concerned you only have the one copy of your songs, which is great if you use the playcount/last played information. When I play the transcoded AAC version on my ROKR, the next time I sync, the lossless version gets the playcount updated. There's no reason for Apple to only allow this on the shuffle and ROKR, it would be the simplest "added feature" ever at this point since it's already there.

iPod touch with a camera?

why not?

Dont give me the "it will go in to iphone sales" the camera is not the main feature on the iphone. the phone is. If that were the case, then apps, wifi etc would "go in to the iphone sales" they havent so a camera would do good. so would GPS. The iPod is no longer just a music player kids...

Which is why I said

Have you submitted feedback to apple about this? I have every time it has come up a reminded me on these forums. So about 10 times and in fact I did it yesterday.

yup, as soon as I saw the option when I got a shuffle and wondered why it wasn't available for my iPod. I've submitted a few times since.
