Hi,

Recently my iphone 6 has been using a lot of cellular data. while I havent done any change to it, I checked where the data was going. I found it under System Services - Itunes Accounts. It was using around 200MB per day.

It is worth mentioning that I have the below restricted from using cellular data:
- Icloud drive is turned off (and use cellular data is ticked off)
- Photos backup are turned off
- Keychain & backup are ticked off
- Under Itunes & App Stores, everything is ticked off (even the use Cellular Data)

I googled the issue and noticed that a lot of users are experiencing the same, and Apple is not talking about it.

Anyone can help?

by a lot of users how many? i never have this issue....are you in anyway connect to apple music?

There are many threads on google about this issue.
I am not connected to apple music, podcasts or anything.
I did something for now, i signed out from the itunes and apple store and i m monitoring the usage.

as you can see below, these are the settings I m using, and still the itunes Accounts used 28MB during less than 1 day.

This issue of Itunes Account using mass amount of data began at the start of February. This was after updating my phone to iOS 10.

Tried turning cell data off for everything, turned off Apple Music (I never joined it though)
Kept happening, no matter what I tried. Ended up blowing about 600mb of data at this point.

I ended up calling apple, spoke with a tech support person who did some remote thing with my phone, said some things came up, and that I needed to restore my phone.
So i went through all the trouble of doing a complete wipe and clean of my phone, and put a small amount of music back on...and the problem still happened. 100mb of itunes account data.

So I removed all the songs from my library...nothing on the phone.

And just now I looked and saw 34mb of itunes account data usage under cellular...

So now I've basically turned cellular data off and now have very expensive phone that I can only use for making calls unless i have wifi...

fyi, the latest iOS update/iTunes update from a week ago didn't fix it....

i dont see any options for iTunes match at all. I looked up how to turn it off in itunes and on my device, but dont see any of the options. I believe it's off or not an option.
If you are subscribed to iTunes Match, that may be the reason why you have seen an increase in iTunes Service data.

If I am not mistaken, it is constantly syncing between devices and if you have music in queue, iTunes Match will use wifi or cellular data to complete the cue, even if you might have toggles off.

If you didn't subscribe to iTunes Match, then what I stated does not apply to you. You can find all your Apple subscriptions by opening iTunes > account > and it will show all current subscriptions (if there are any). it will also show old subscriptions (if I am not mistaken).

Are you on a limited data plan? If so, continue to do what you are doing to alleviate the impact. I also suggest you file a bug report with Apple about your problem. I think the OP should that as well.

THIS IS GETTING FRUSTRATING!

I m wondering if it s a bug related to the specific iphone I have.

This issue began somewhere between Jan and Feb

I already did that after speaking with Apple. Problem began immediately upon restore.

I would try restore and setup as new on the latest iOS.

My problems happened immediately after updating to iOS 10.
I can't see it being device specific...this has to be an issue with the iOS, or maybe iTunes.

Said that this update contains a lot of bug fixes.
Apparently not the bug we are experiencing because I still experienced this issue after upgrading.
 
I was hopefully the update would fix it, but it didn't.

I would guess whenever Apple figures this out and put out the fix it won't be mentioned in the notes, as they probably want to avoid admitting there is an issue...
This problem is actually costing people money (wasted data)

My wife began having this issue starting around the same time as others have mentioned. Almost 100MB in 4 days on her iPhone 6s.

My iPhone 7 has not had such issues.
 
I finally figured this out. Fact check me if you wish-I think I got it.

I took the same podcast and ran it a few different ways. 10MB podcast.

First study-download podcast over cellular data:
Podcast app showed 10MB of data usage
"Itunes Accounts" showed 50MB of data usage

Second study-stream podcast over cellular data:
Podcast app showed 22MB of data usage
"Itunes Accounts" showed 0MB of data usage

Conclusion:
1. Downloading a podcast uses "Itunes Accounts" data (this probably doesn't meet the Steve Jobs vision of logic and simplicity) :)
2. Streaming a podcast takes less than half the amount of total data as downloading a podcast (this is backwards than I would have thought, but good to know)

For now, I have just switched over to streaming instead of downloading, and it should save me a significant amount of overall data.
