I've finally reached the end of my endurance with iTunes. The application frequently loses song-links to music files that I haven't moved (or listened to), semi-randomly eliminates songs from playlists, and makes it really cumbersome to maintain a file architecture when it could simply replicate how I organize my mp3s on my hard drive.

my question is, does anyone know of a good, rational application for Mac that plays mp3s and uses the same file organization in which the files are stored? The old WinAmp worked fine -- something like that would be great. I would really, really appreciate help in liberating myself from iTunes. Thx

You could try Songbird, but IMO it's a Firefox shoehorned into a music player...

There's also Cog but it hasn't been updated for years.
