When I connect my iPad/iPod/whatever to my MBP, iPhoto pops up with the device listed. This got annoying so I turned off the option to open iPhoto when plugging in a camera.

However, iTunes and XCode both don't show the iPad or iPod listed in the devices connected! This means I can't test out apps or do any development.

I did find a (temporary) fix however-- reinstall iTunes. After reinstalling iTunes, the devices show up just fine in iTunes and XCode until I turn the computer off and on again. They don't show up, I reinstall iTunes, works perfectly, rinse, repeat.

This is extremely annoying and I have no clue why it would do this. I can't seem to find anyone else with the same problem either! Any suggestions or fixes? I'd rather not reinstall iTunes every time I boot the computer up.

I had the exact same problem. I assumed it was because i was on a JB iPhone and running the latest version of iTunes. I ended up getting so annoyed i wiped my MBP clean and installed 9.1.1 iTunes which was the last time i didn't have any problems with it. So far so good for me.

My iPad isn't JB but it wouldn't show up either, i'm not sure what to make of that one.

I went through the uninstall/reinstall for a little bit like you, but i found it only worked for the initial time i connected the device. It was extremely annoying to say the least. I Googled about it, didn't find anyone having the same problem.
