iTunes -Buy HD video and get standard free?

I downloaded the first episode on Mad Men in HD (1.5GB) and got the same episode in standard form (580MB), they both downloaded at the same time. So my question i guess is, is there a way to stop downloading two, i carry all my media on my laptop and i don't have much space left.

You can pause the download of the SD version but it'll try to re-download it all the time. I agree that it's frustrating but I'm not aware of any way to avoid it.
