For the second time I am unable to open iTunes as each time I try I receive a message that it has quit unexpectedly. When this happened before I restored my itunes library to a prior version with time capsule and was able to get it up and running. I am sure I will be able to do this again, but I thought I might post here in an attempt to get to the root of the problem.

My computer is a MBP 5,1 with 8GB of RAM, an aftermarket SSD, and a 500GB HDD in place of the optical drive. Itunes is set up to keep the iTunes library on the HDD. I have tried downloading the itunes .dmg file and reinstalling the software to address any corrupt files, and will try restoring my library to a prior version next.

Here's what worked for me to fix this problem:

Click to open iTunes, holding down the option key.

At the prompt to choose a library, create a new library in a location you remember called "TEMP". Allow iTunes to open with this new library. Close itunes.

Open iTunes, again holding down the option key, then point itunes back to your original library (or a slightly older version if you have a time machine backup).
