Whenever i connect my iPhone, iTunes crashes. Sometimes it gets to step 7(or something like that) of the entire process and crashes somewhere in the photo syncing. At other moments it crashes right after connecting my iPhone. The report shows the same error every time. Any idea where to go from here?

    What have i done sofar?
    - reinstalled the latest version of iTunes
    - removed the iPhoto cache (iPod Photo Cache)

    My specs:
    - MBP with 10.7.3
    - iTunes 10.6
    - iPhone4 running 5.0.1

    The error:

Somebody else might be able to give better advice if they have some insights into the crash or have had something similar happen, but if it were up to me, I would try restoring the iPhone and seeing if that fixes it.

I read more similar issues. I would love to restore my iPhone, yet as soon as i connect my iPhone, iTunes crashes.

    same issue

I have the exact same problem. Crashes every time it gets to the step where it syncs photos, or as soon as I click on the phone icon within Itunes while it is syncing, whichever comes first.

Is the iPhone jailbroken? Can you self update to 5.1?

Yes, iPhone is JB. And no, don't want to upgrade to 5.1 :D

But is there a way to wipe the iPhone from it's contents (music, photo's, movies, etc)?

Well, you could restore to 5.0.1 again, so that you can re-jailbreak. Just download 5.0.1 directly (search google) and then shift-click (or perhaps option-click) on restore in iTunes and then select the ISPW file.

Try reinstalling iTunes. Note, I know you say that you've done this already, but perhaps not in this way.

Have you gone through all of the over steps that are mentioned in that article as well?

Tried everything you can possibly imagine.

I finally decided to suck it up and pay for service with a call to apple support (I'm outside of warranty and support). After two hours and two senior technicians, it appears that the issue is because I upgraded to ios Lion but never upgraded my iphoto to '11. There is apparently a "known issue" (but not well known enough that it took less than 2 hours to resolve) with the old version of iphoto and the new ios Lion.

We found a workaround by moving the AlbumData.xml and AlbumData2.xml files out of the iphone library folder. This allowed me to sync everything except photos - however, once I reopen iphoto, it recreates those files, and I would have to delete them every time, and never sync new photos.

Unfortunately, it appears that, because I paid $30 to upgrade to ioslion, I can no longer have full use of my iphone unless I pay another $15 (plus paying for support to find this out) to upgrade to iphoto '11.

Lesson learned: do not upgrade your operating system unless you plan on paying to upgrade additional features. Consider this longtime mac fan disappointed by this process.

After upgrading to iphoto '11 the problem appears to be resolved.

I had the same issue: out of the blue iTunes started crashing when it got to the point of syncing Music. All steps up to that point completed successfully.

After reading this thread, I uninstalled iTunes and iPhoto ('09), then rebooted. Then I downloaded the latest iTunes, and purchased iPhoto '11 . Installed, and then rebooted. When back up, I launched iPhoto and let it update my photo library. Then I launched iTunes, and it came up normally with all my music intact. Just to be certain, I deauthorized and re-authorized the computer. Then I plugged in the iPod Touch (2nd generation) and when it got to the Music portion of the sync, all worked fine. I now have a working system again.

It was worth the $15 to have the latest iPhoto and a working iPod. Thanks for the earlier input on this!

Wow thanks, it was indeed iPhoto '09 that was causing the problem. I was about to thrash all contents on my iPhone and then pray for a successful restore, but luckily i first read this thread again. With iPhoto '11 everything is back to normal.

Pretty crappy that it seems to be a known issue, and that it requires you to buy iLife.
