iPod touch iTunes doesnt recognize my touch???

I plugged my 1st gen iPod Touch into my computer and it came up with a message saying it doesn't recognize the iPhone "iPod" because there was an invalid response. After that message my ipod restarted and now it has the apple logo of death. Any tips?

What did you do with it before that happened?

Try restoring it...

right before i did this i set a passcode on it

Enter in the passcode then plug it in when it's not asleep.
