With the new "premium" tracks, are we to see a new iTunes (7.2?) this week also? and with the iPhone coming so shortly would you think they'd just put it in now?

I imagine we would see a 7.1.2 if there are any software changes in iTunes to handle upgrading songs to non-drm versions.

Then 7.2 will be saved for the iPhone in mid-June (too soon to do a iTunes release with iPhone support, since there could be last minute changes before the iPhone is released.

Like DRM matters, I can download anything I like. I pay for material from artists I like. Arrgh! A Pirate I be.

DRM-free music is rolling out worldwide at the sametime to my knowledge. Remember the announcement actually took place in London for this, I'm positive it'll happen in Europe at sametime as the US.

You have a point there :) I forgot all about that for a second.

Just out of curiosity, people seem to want to upgrade their EMI music. Have I just been looking in the wrong places, or has apple just announced going DRM-free with EMI musicians and not delivered said music? So far I've only checked some odd 5-10 musicians signed under EMI and none of them have songs sold for more than $.99

I'd really like to see Apple adding information about things like bitrate and filesize to the fileinfo of songs/movies/TV series/etc on iTMS. So far I haven't figured out what the bitrate, or more importantly the size of whatever file I'm downloading is, before I actually start downloading it. Am I the only one with this concern?

You can pre-order Paul's new album on iTunes. The link is there already for a couple of days

Yes, but is there any way of telling if the quality is higher and it is DRM free? I don't have iTunes on this PC so I can't tell if the price is different than usual.

That just brings me back to my point: "Apple, please include more file-information!" ;)
This would come in handy later on down the road, especially if the average user downloads music, not knowing which musician is signed under EMI. DRM-free or not, the music is sold with higher quality

I had forgotten about this EMI deal then I saw this news story and it annoyed me.

It annoyed me because Apple state they are going to do something but always leave it till the tail end of any given month, just once I would like to be surprised and have them release something at the beginning of a month.

However the irony of this is they could have said June instead of May and given themselves a few more days and impressed me by releasing it at the start of June!

I did mention it a few days ago but Apple has been shooting a new advert at Pinewood and Shepperton studios in the UK. Paul McCartney was flown it to take part.

If true, and I have no reason to think its NOT true, this is great news... and only gives more credence to a possible release of Beatles as well, DRM-free.:)

This has definitely been a long and winding road. ;)

Well, iTunes Canada still shows June 5, 2007 as the release date for the new McCartney album, if that is any indication?

Or, Could It Be...

I'm guessing the "exclusive" Apple has with EMI is The Beatles also.

Or maybe a true touchscreen movie iPod aka the iPhone sans phone with the complete works of McCartney and/or The Beatles? To be announced first and production rolled out on a later date. (Kinda like U2 Special Edition iPod with their complete works.)

i can't wait until tomorrow hopefully there will be some beatles track for download by then

I'm not losing hope until about 9pm BST, due to the time difference between here and the States.

I wouldn't be that upset to be honest, I'd just sort of assumed it would be happening today.

I encoded all music to 256 aac anyway. So this upgrade will be cool for the ones that I bought that are EMI distributed. I'm excited for the other record companies to jump on this wagon. 256 is cool w/me. And in a few years if they after lossless or whatever, i'll upgrade that too. I LOVE iTMS.

It'll probably become available on Thursday night 11:59pm their local time. Heh.

I LUV :apple:

Someone asked earlier but I didn't see an answer. Since full albums will be the same price with or without DRM will we be able to upgrade our already purchased full albums for free?
