Looking for some confirmation here, I just noticed on my Apple TV that I had 700 movies purchased and it went down to 691 today. I thought maybe movies had been removed from iTunes, but when I checked it looks like it only removed duplicate movies that were in my library more than once. Has anyone else noticed this? I was trying to make sure I didn’t have any movies deleted, but it doesn’t seem to be the case.

Funny to see this! I too noticed this today. I was just looking at the duplicate movies in my collection yesterday in iTunes on my Mac. Today I opened Movies on Apple TV and no more dupes. Glad to see I'm not the only one that noticed it.

Did this apply to your library on iPhone/iPad/mac as well? I hope this is fixed, I won't be able to check my Apple TV until later today but it would be awesome if the library is fixed across devices!

I had 3 duplicates of the same movie, and contacted support a month or two ago.. iTunes support told me it was a Movies Anywhere problem.

I heard about this yesterday. when I tried my TROLLS movie (on the AppleTV) it was showing as if I had not redeemed the code and instead still needed to purchase this movie.

today on my MBP I clearly see it as do I see other movies that some mentioned being missing. not sure if things cleared up today OR if the MBP was always showing things correctly and it was more of an AppleTV issue.

So, when I noticed it on my AppleTV, I went to my Mac and immediately turned off my Wi-Fi before opening iTunes. Then I exported my movies playlist to a text file then I turned on Wi-Fi and let it update and exported it again. Sure enough the duplicates were in the first export and removed once they updated. That’s how I figured out it was only removing duplicates was by comparing the two exported text files from my iTunes movies playlist.

The issue for me is, I know you’re supposed to back up your movies because they can be removed from iTunes. But that kind of seems like BS because I can buy movies on an Apple TV and have no way to back them up. I thought that was what happened here but it seems it was not the case.

Realistically the iTunes agreements should be updated with the movie providers so that if you’ve bought a movie digitally it never gets removed. They can remove it from sale, but they can’t remove you from re-downloading it again.

Anyway, hypothetical indignation avoided. :)

It applied everywhere (Mac & iOS), even in Movies Anywhere. It did start when Movies Anywhere opened up after being strictly Disney branded, so it was probably that service that cleaned it up.

A digital movie forum I belong to has a lot of people complaining about movies missing recently — and not just duplicates. I was wondering if they were doing backend changes to prepare for tvOS 12 that is causing issues. But can’t find out anything.

So after reading this thread earlier today I checked my library once I got home from work.

I went from 3 duplicates of How to Train Your Dragon down to 2.

It’s about time. This has been driving me bonkers for over a year now. I doubt you’ve lost any movies.

Movies still are randomly disappearing. Still hoping it is to prepare for tvOS 12 and will straighten itself out. But this instability is driving me nuts.

Restart your ATV. It will reload your catalog. I had a similar buggy issue a couple of years back that kept dropping titles. On the next update it got fixed. It was annoying as hell to have to restart all the time though.
