Apple iTunes - DownGrade (from 11 to 10) - Error Code 42408 - Solved - Resume

(Apple) iTunes - DownGrade (from 11 to 10) - Error Code 42408 - Solved - Resume

Here is a resume of the whole process (from the previous posts) :

DownGrade Process :

01) Uninstall iTunes 11 :
you can use AppZapper
or you can Manually Delete iTunes 11 from the Applications Folder ;

Be warned that the manual method may require you to :
Look into the Application Package (.app) of iTune 11,
Delete all of the Files & Folders found there (one after another),
Empty the Trash Bin,
Look again into the Applications Folder
to verify that iTune is not returned from binary death,
(if it came back, then Restart your Computer,
and then Repeat this same process).

02) DownLoad iTunes 10.7 from this link :
http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes10/041-7195.20120912.d3uzQ/iTunes10.7.dmg

03) DownLoad Pacifist as well, from this link :
http://www.charlessoft.com/

04) Open the iTune 10.7 Installator file (.dmg).
You will see the Package file (.pkg).

05) Usually, you double click on this Package file it to install the software ;
but this time : Drag the Package file (.pkg) out somewhere.

06) Launch Pacifist.

07) Drag the Package file (.pkg) to Pacifist.

08) Click "install" from the menu bar of Pacifist.

09) During installation,
Click "Replace" everytime a window is popping out.
(this is the key step :
some thing(s) that can NOT be removed during uninstallation
will be completely replaced by iTunes 10.7, thanks to Pacifist).

10) The installation of the software is finished :
iTunes 10.7 comes back !

11) The iTunes Library also needs to be recovered :

You can Recover your latest iTunes Library
(the one which was created by iTunes 10.x),
by using the newest of the files which were automatically saved by iTunes
in the Folder called "Previous iTunes Libraries"
(/Users/[YourUserName]/Music/iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries),
or from Time Machine.

12) To prevent an accidental automatic reinstallation of iTunes 11,
be sure to UnCheck the Automatic UpDates… (see in iTunes Preferences)

You cracked it, Now go and spread the news....

I just deleted 11 without app zapper etc, followed the rest, and back workin

If you didn't deautherise your accounts before this itunes will ask for password when you try to play a video but will then say already autherised and then work fine - In other words i didn't waste an activation.

YOU SAVED MY DAY!!!!!! thank you so much!!!!!!!

After hours... this finally worked out! BUT, perform at your own risk, I was told it could possibly do some harm...

EXACTLY what I did:

1, uninstall itunes 11 using AppZapper

2, download 10.7 from this link http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes10/041-7195.20120912.d3uzQ/iTunes10.7.dmg download pacifist as well: http://www.charlessoft.com/

3, open the 10.7 dmg file, you will see the pkg file(usally double click to install), but this time drag it out somewhere.

4, launch pacifist

5, drag the pkg file to pacifist and the click install from the menu bar

6, during installation, click replace everytime a window popping out (this is the key i reckon, something that can't be removed during uninstallation will be replaced by 10.7 completely thanks to pacifist)

7, installation finished, iTunes 10.7 comes back!

Having upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks a couple of weeks ago, I killed iTunes 11 and carried on with 10.7 - I did get the -42408 error at launch but ignored it, until I found yesterday that I couldn't play the 1% of my music that is DRM. So I followed your advice and it's worked perfectly. Thank you! Smile.
