I'm a reporter for a newspaper, and a huge Mac fan, but if I was there I wouldn't be applauding either.

i was wondering about this - your supposed to give an unbiased view, as well as taking all your notes in verbatim. so perhaps that supports why the audience isn't buzzing. its probably the same for every microsoft press event. its also not as if the audience doesn't know the features of iTunes either.

there's that "oh-ta-matically" again. i'm going to be saying that for the rest of the day.

We're all sick to death of ITunes.
I think "ALL" is too broad of a term, Michael. I'm sure those in the UK, Germany and France are kinda glad to see the Music Store. If you're so sick of iTunes, why even read a thread that begins with the word "iTunes"?

Moronic.

I don't think it was Steves best performance either. I usually watch him giving a Keynote with great admiration as he is a superb speaker normally, but this time his heart didn't seem in it the same.

Maybe it was just too hard to fill an hour on one aspect.

Hope he gets it better for WWDC.

maybe he is... *shock! Horror!* "bored" by this whole music thingy and wants to get back into the nitty gritty of Mac's... yeah!

instead of £15/€20 gift vouchers, maybe Apple should have given everyone in the audience a random coloured iPod mini to everyone in the crowd...

it would have a been a good launch point for the iPod Mini, also, it would have cheered the crowd up exponetially and would have acted as a chill pill...

it would have also helped everyone engage in more of the Apple "community spirit" when everyone would inevitably be trading their iPods Mini's for colours they are more happy with...

the free publicity would have paid for the Mini's 100's of times over.

Come on guys, what did you expect? This was not a keynote at a WWDC full of Mac junkies. It was a dressed up PRESS CONFERENCE. Have you ever heard journalists cheer and applaude at a press conference? Besides that, it was a copy of the earlier keynote on iTMS USA, and little exciting was announced that was not predicted already. On the contrary it was rather disappointing that the store is currently limited to three European countries only. The only positive thing that was not predicted was the low 99 eurocents including tax for Germany and France. Some folks (I guess from those countries) cheered at that point. The British did not for the relatively high 79 p, obviously.

If you invite only journalists then this is what you get - A crap audience that won't help you. I bet you don't get the US journo's whooping at the US Stevenotes either? If he wanted help then maybe sending out some invites to UK .mac users would have helped get a more friendly audience. Or howabout getting everyone a little drunk before the start. TV studios over here giveaway a couple of free drinks to members of the audience of comedy shows so they're in a better mood and more inclined to laugh. I know - I've been in the audience several times 😉

Didn't you notice Steve did his best to make a "British" keynote? He swapped the "isn't that cool?" for "isn't that amazing?". 😀

From own experiences I understand this kind of keynotes is very difficult. If there is no interaction with the public you switch to auto-pilot with the only goal to tell your story within the given time. Very frustrating.

I liked when he made the joke about the Airport Express' U.K. plug-adapter being as big as the device itself 🙂

i've never known our SJ to be long-winded and boring...

i guess the keynote was boring for some because SJ did not say anything new.

but this is imo not an excuse that the crowd were so asleep.

and during the alicia keys part, were the reporters writing then too? were tabloid reporters invited too? 🙄

there is one thing that is not clear to me. maybe i did not listen good enough, so here goes.

if i am from let us say irland, i go to london and visit some friends who live there and i urge/blackmail/force them to get me a gift certificate.

then i go home to irland and use the gift certificate using the british iTMS, would this in theory work?

if so, well think about this idea, Apple helps promote tourism. "Visit Germany, France and the United Kingdom."

I'm watching it now... Does the display on his desk look like a.... new model? I may just be the quality but it looks a bit more like those rumored displays than the current cinema ones.

No, regular display. I think it's a 17", but I'm not sure.

No, this won't work. Because even to use or redeem a gift certificate, you need an iTunes account and Apple checks that you actully live in these contry.
Off course, someone can use there friend's address, but that voilets Apple's legal agreement as they say "we can use technologies to confirm your data (and kick your ass)" 🙂 .

😀 me too! I've never heard anyone else say it like that.
I'm glad Apple decided to stream this, it's always cool to see an Apple event, even though this was a press conference. Kudos to Alicia Keys for getting through the crowd, although, I thought two songs would have been enough. Oh well, I can't wait to find out how iTunes is doing over there!

Europe and its great jurnos

well what a supprise NOT!!! the main thing about this keynote was its a press event. Press = intrested in informiing the public who will be reading alll about it in a mag newspaper even on the tv with the news crews. The BBC would have killed most of it for the rest of us with there 08:45am broadcast on the whole european itms deal. As stated by them the biggest secreet in ages slipped again blah blah and as stated one of the jurnos who was on the bbc said exspect the price of the uk store to be near 70p.. Its actualy 79p but what the heck still cheaper than the 1 pound they thought it might have been. The other thing thats funny is that the 2 muppets who were at the bbc going on about it started yabbing on about the iPod one of the prestenters said how easy is it to use an iPod. One jurno said well you have to make sure you have the right PC to use it. What a firewire card or USB2 and cables how hard can that be....

Keynote / Press event = Dull no free bear thats why 😀

beshides apple needs to really start working with the rest of the world not just the states this is a good start but more work is needed to really start getting people going for online buying of music and not just P2P

Well thats my mouthfull over and done with

Why won't it play?

I have tried several times (and on two different macs) to view the Keynote, but it doesn't work. Both macs are bang up to date.

Anyone else unable to view Apple's Keynotes?

Yes she did 🙂 All behind SJ -- only one thing...

that is more likely becuase Alicia Keys charmed the pants off them...

I Have to admit, i have both Alicia Key's albums but never really appreciated her as a person, but the way she performed and held herself with such a tough audience was really admirable and she looked great!

I was crawling out of my skin and really felt for Jobs : I think he was fine.

Alicia was awesome in her talent and her poise before a rude crowd. And she was painfully gorgeous to look at --- I cried myself to sleep 🙁
My GAWD !!! the eyes on that Woman !!!!!!! 🙂

One little thing though :

There was a graphic near the end that showed the USA in the center with the other nations disposed radially about , as satellites, in digital hub fashion.

This was followed by a view of the globe centered on the USA.

Given the resentment toward Americans so prevalent in the world today, I would have suggested that the globe might START centered on the USA, then rotate to a POLAR projection with the USA on the left and Europe to the right (as most cultures in Europe scan tex). This would give due credit to the priority of the USA in Apple's iTunes MS service etc. and also express the (r)evolution into a more cosmopolitan world market.

I know this sounds silly, but people in other countries are not used to seeing their flags and continents depicted as satellites of the USA.

I will now duck and requests some of your thoughts on this.
