Yes, I know this is a Mac site, but this is an iTunes problem and there are plenty of Windows users here. (I personally loathe Windows and am only using it to load my iPod while I wait to buy a Mac)
iTunes 5.0 was working fine on Win2000 SP4, but I needed a newer version because I was planning on buying the new Shuffle which doesn't include an iTunes install disc. So I downloaded and installed the latest 7.2. It installed fine, rebooted, configured itself, but then crashed when starting with a standard (and impossible to diganose) "iTunes exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows". I ran a file monitor, registry monitor, process monitor and found the error log which says iTunes caused an illegal instruction.
I searched the internet and found that many others have had this problem, but there was no solution mentioned. Does anybody have an idea on how to fix it? Unfortunately, I can't go back to iTunes 5.0 because the disc has read errors. (and crap Windows makes it impossible to back up installed software because of the incredibly stupid registry)
