Quick question about iTunes extras.

Why do some only work on a iMac or Macbook Pro and not on the Apple TV?

The Expendables 3 works on Apple TV, but the other 2 Expendables extras only work on a Mac computer.

Thanks

Depends on the type of iTunes extra. If yours says iTunes extra (older version) then it is OS X only. The new universal iTunes extra (OS X & iOS) will have the blue icon.

My understanding is that the extras that come with standard definition movies cannot be viewed on the Apple TV, but the extras included with high definition movies are available on the Apple TV. I never understood why Apple made this distinction, but they stated it awhile ago when they announced they were adding more extras to the iTunes store.

Color me stumped (and frustrated). I purchased the six movie Star Wars collection in HD a couple of weeks ago, which came complete with extras. Strangely, none of the extras---or their badges---appear on AppleTV, even though it's running on the most recent OS.

How, exactly, is this supposed to work?

When you select a movie and press play. It brings you to a splash page that has options along the bottom for extras, related, etc.

This only works on movies with the new extras. If your Apple TV still does not show this. I would suggest a hard reset. Unplug the power cable, wait a minute, reconnect and start it up.

Thanks for the heads up, 2010mini.

Before doing a hard reboot, I checked the ATV Settings menu, finding a couple of oddities (including the auto-update feature being turned off, which has always been "on"). Also, the Netflix app required me to log in again, before updating the box's OS.

Not sure what the heck happened, but ATV is back on track, including the ability to view iTunes Extras.

No problem. Glad to help.

Did you have a recent power failure? Could be why the ATV was acting up.
