itunes failure to recognize ipod touch or iphone

MacBook Pro,!0.6.2, iTunes 9.0.2, iPhone 3.1.2, iPod2.2.1
ITunes opens, but neither iPhone nor iPod is shown, and when iPhone is plugged in, iTunes crashes. Thus far, have emptied iTunes cache, run TechTool, DiskUtility, and DiskWarrior.

I had the same problem just yesterday; I tunes didn't recognize my ipod touch; touch manual said try restarting your computer and that did it.

I have restarted and run all the utilities...and still my ipod crashes itunes
