Back in May, Apple announced that its annual iTunes Festival in London would be moving to September for 2012, with the event once again offering 30 days of free concerts at The Roundhouse. While tickets to the shows have been awarded on a lottery basis, Apple this year is offering access to the concerts with a number of live streaming options including through the iTunes Festival website, through a dedicated universal iOS app, and through Apple TV.

For those interested in watching the shows on Apple TV, the company has just pushed out an automatic update adding the iTunes Festival app to users' set-top boxes, making it easy for users to access the shows from the main menu of the device.

This is not the first time Apple has experimented with delivering live content directly to the Apple TV, as the company earlier this year offered a live stream of a Paul McCartney concert through both iTunes and the Apple TV.

The 2012 iTunes Festival kicks off on September 1 with Usher and runs daily throughout the month until closing with Muse on September 30.

Just push out a full on television service already! Start your own if no one else what's come on board. I'd cut Comcast off, except for Internet, if this was possible. :apple:

Yea, vapid mainstream.

Louder, please!! Give me more teens and 60-somethings singing about themselves....

now just push out the HBO GO app......

Cable companies would never let you see anything with cable service so what's the point.

I wish they could have done this with the Olympics app

Not as easy as you think. There's huge legal issues due to contracts etc. they have to either wait for current contracts to run out and hope they can entice a change in SOP or get themselves named as a cable company so they can invoke said SOP. Neither one of which is easy.

Which is stupid on the part of the content companies. If they would play ball with Apple's iTunes store in terms of better quality, pricing and timing they could seriously cut back p2p by casual users who are peeved that Time Warner holdings doesn't post any shows until weeks after the box sets release etc

Imagine a system where you paid like $0.99 for 30 minute shows, $1.99 for 60 minutes and above for all three qualities, posted globally on more than one week after first OTA, your pick of streaming or downloading. Many folks would be fine with that. Especially if there was CC, alt language etc. and if the nets would count those funds alongside the ratings way better

Nice. Now get BBC iPlayer on there (can't for the life of me understand how it's not already) and while they're at it an option to delete MLB.TV and WSJ live. What possessed them to include these in the UK version?

I can't understand why Apple are so reluctant to add an App Store to the Apple TV. The App Store has completely revolutionized how we use telephones and might well do the same for TVs.
Combine the cloud, apps and TVs and I think you have the next big thing.

As long as it does not include McCartney thats the main thing.

Hes already played a couple shockers at the Jubilee and Olympics.

I just wanted to say I love my Apple TV. That is all. :D

What about an app to watch the sept 12 event live on the apple tv ?

Yeah, all the Apple events and keynotes show up on the Apple TV. They just don't show up live. That would be great.

Sweet, first week looks kind of boring, but the last couple weeks look awesome.

Odd that OneRepublic is a supporting act. Oh well, Matchbox 20 is good, too.

Stay tuned for the Android and Windows 8 version of the app due out in October. snickr snickr

Will you be able to stream ones you miss after the fact, or is this a live-only deal? I won't be available for some of the ones I want to see. :.(

Edit: Alright, from the FAQ: When can I watch the performances? You can watch the performances live or view them after the shows for a limited time.

Here's hoping "limited time" is measured in days and not hours.

sounds cool...can Americans access this?

I have not tried in previous years but with an AppleTV it could be nice...I do like a few artists i see on the bill already.

If/when iPlayer gets on Apple TV, that will be it for a computer in the living room for me - for now it has to go through The Nintendo Wii

Why in the world is Lana Del Ray a headliner!?

IMO, Band of Horses or Walk the Moon would be a million times better.

they dont really need an app store once things come available they can just push them to the device like they did with Hulu+

This is pretty cool. I wish there was a 'reminder' option though, I already know I'll forget.
