Hey guys,

I've been freeing up space on my macbook, and I tried tackling my music. I download all my discographies from torrents, and therefore, I keep all of my music in the Downloads folder. To free up space I was looking through my downloads folder and deleting files such as live performances, and when it comes to some artists, their live performances alone can be up to 8gb, so I thought it was a good place to start.. However, even after I deleted these from my downloads folder and emptied my trash, the songs still play in my iTunes, and I noticed the files are also in Music>iTunes>iTunes Media>Music

does this mean that when I put my songs from my Downloads to my music, that it creates a copy of the file and I can just delete the original file in my Downloads folder? If so, this would free up a lot of space.

Thanks so much,
-Andrew 🙂

Correct. You have iTunes copy music to it's own library. In essence all the music in your Downloads folder is duplicates and can be trashed.
