I'm not sure, and I could be wrong here, but the OP seems to be having issues with knowledge of the process or the network on his home instead of actually having a problem with iTunes.

Concur. I haven't seen or used an app yet that can organize and manage media as well.

iTunes is pretty good for organizing media, I just wish it wasn't so slow. I get that it handles a lot of media, but surely they can find some things that can be cut out (Ping would be a good starting point). Give us a fast media manager Apple.

I have my media library duplicated - once on my Windows desktop, and once on my MacBook for primary organizing and syncing.

Are you using iTunes on windows? I agree, it can be painfully slow sometimes. However, in OSX, I find it pretty snappy.

As the same for me. iTunes already has a simple UI. However, it's obvious why you think iTunes is bad, simply because you do not use it, or take the time to learn the UI and features. It's only when you learn is when you can correctly judge if you think iTunes has a bad UI and such....

iTunes is an epic piece of software and has gotten better over the years.... :D

Yeah I'm using it on Windows 7. I really wish they would put some decent development into making the Windows version better, but I doubt it will happen any time soon.

I wish iTunes was optional.

I have a better app for media management, myself. Sorry it doesn't work out for most, but I am far more productive moving my media according to my desires than constantly micro-managing an additional piece of software that doesnt run well on my machine (and no I am not buying an expensive Mac to dump my win7 machine which is perfectly good for me). On top of that the only machine able to sync media is at home. If I sync it at a friend's place, at work or school, bye bye my old library. That's stupid.

There are time when I feel my old e72 is better than my iPhone 4, no joke. Intact if it hadnt broken and I didnt get a free iPhone 4 off retentions I wouldn't have picked one. IMO symbian is more powerful and feature packed than laggy android but nokia just can't get anything good right. See meego.

/end rant :p

Ok, oyu don't have an ethernet cable, external hard drive, DVD burner (I can only assume), you just expected all her info and media to be on a new computer without any kind of transfer and it's iTunes' fault that you're having problems? Ok then....Anyway, it's super easy, just use any of the suggested transfer methods, move over the iTunes library, and you're set. Anything authorized on the other computer will need to be re-authorized on the destination one, and as far as number of files, are you sure everything is actually located in iTunes? If not, you likely have media spread all over the HD and that's why it's not picking everything up.

Um, i never said that. I only didnt have an ethernet cable. I said i used a external drive at least three times. So even though you didnt read my posts, thanks for the tips anyways. I appreciate them.

I haven used it much for over a year because it is easier to organize my music on my Android with the Micro card. So i havent kept up with iTunes updates but there are many options and things to check on it to make it work. I dont have to do all that with my microcard. Take it out, put it in something else, ...Done!

iTunes has many tseps and if you dont use it much yes, it is confusing and ytou have to find out how to do something that should be simple...and is simple with my Android.

The MacBook is cool and i really like it so im not bashing anything or anybody. iTunes was just a pain unless you are very familiar with it but it still takes some steps to get what i wanted to do done which isnt as simple as popping out a card and inserting it in something else. But, i will take some tips from this and save a couple so next time it wont be so aggrevating.

Two words: jailbreak.

It is the reason I still keep the iPhone. I get to enjoy the smooth an simple ui yet I haven't used iTunes last 8 months with my almost full iPhone. I can copy and move contacts, photos, media through Bluetooth to a nokia 1661 if need be, can copy contacts to sim with one button press, can sync on device to iPod app and photos app by simply dropping all media to two folders both through browser downloads and pc uploads and activating "sync now" on a jb app. Even albums and playlists are generated on device.

It's interesting none of these "hacks" drops my battery life, or makes the iPhone laggy, or makes any other app unusable. The phone keeps working like a stock one even with all the tweaks working all the time. Hence I call BS on apple teaching people how their lock down is oh so important to have the good experience. Suckers.
