I haven't liked a single free song that has been featured.

Perhaps I should write one. Let me think of a title…

Frosty the Snowman.
I only followed it around 2007, maybe 2009. I honestly can't remember. But I did get a few good songs from it, I don't know if the free songs were different between regions. It's a small shame its gone now.

I miss them already :(

I noticed last week the songs didn't change...and this week the songs were gone. what is weird is prior to this year they only had 2-3 songs per week. then after a brief hiatus, they came back with a NEW LOOK for the Free on iTunes section and had anywhere from 7-14 songs. I've picked up songs from artists i heard a few times on the radio and have really enjoyed. and used the free songs as a nicer primer to other great artists and albums.

I don't do the paid streaming. I don't see the point of paying to rent the songs. I can pay and buy/own...or just listen to free radio.

**Yes, maybe I am a cheap-ass, but if I can get something for free instead of paying for it (legally) then I see that as a benefit and I can spend that $ elsewhere

I've noticed this just last week. iTunes were good on doing this one for years and failed to do just last month? What's going on??

Glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed it hasn't been updated in a few weeks.

I really hope it stays around though, I enjoyed getting the free songs from iTunes, and have for the past bunch of years, collecting cool songs from new artists, upcoming artists, and sometimes new songs by old favorite artists too.
Yep. I'm still rocking La Roux's "Bulletproof" which was a free song of the day.

The Japanese itunes store dropped their free song of the day when they finally switched to DRM-free back in 2012.

The best song I ever got free was 2AM from Anna Nalick, I think they offered this twice: shortly before eh album release and WAY before the release (6 or 9 months I think?).

They might have offered other songs that I like better, but I already had those songs, this one introduced me to a new artist that I've purchased albums and gone to concerts.

The Starbucks app still gives free songs and apps, really good apps sometimes.

I'll miss the free iTS music, but just only a bit - so much of what was offered didn't appeal to me, and I'll admit that some of it was just terrible. Some of the DLs led to purchases, like one from Gin Wigmore - I'd marry her just for her voice.

With so many other "free" and low-cost options available I've looked elsewhere for a decent source entertainment - the streaming/DL content on archive.org (including Grateful Dead concerts going back to the mid-'60s and Grace and the Nocturnals) and nyctaper.com, the absolutely killer deals on the Xbox Music Deals app around the holidays (I snagged 65 excellent new/classic albums for free and bought about 20 more for $1.99 each), and the box deals that the iTS offers like the AC/DC Complete package it was a good year for music whores like me.

iTS Free Music, I'll miss you. But only a little bit. :sniff:

I use to download these religiously. Made a few interesting discoveries, but now I have a library that is polluted with lots of crappy one song artists...

Edit: at least I don't use my library that much anymore since end of June...
Years ago, they used to have these 25+ song give aways. I downloaded a few of those giveaways and never liked the songs and finally got to deleting them a year or two later.

I did discover new bands though by the free song of the week.

I miss this. I discovered quite a few artists with the free songs. Some of them became top 40 songs. I hope, though I don't expect, the free songs come back.
