Essentially, Apple's curators only think movies with a white lead and majority cast are essential.

Either it was completely deliberate or a major oversight.
[doublepost=1496467897][/doublepost]I know Apple doesn't have total control over the cost, or these bundles sometimes, but honestly they and we are better than this. I think we can concede that movies in the 60's and earlier, there were much much fewer leads with people of color, but I think we can name plenty of "iconic" movies in every decade after that feature people of color as leads. Heck, I'll name a few now: Game of Death, Coming to America, Courage Under Fire... so many. All iconic.

Apple Music has almost everything.
Netflix has a very limited selection, and also now focuses on episodic content instead of music.

So often do I hear people talking about specific or iconic older movies that I then want to check out. But often the only option is to buy it, which is stupidly expensive to do for movies you're only going to watch once (and might not even like).

I'd be willing to spend way more than Netflix's 10$ for access to a "complete archive" of movies (that are a few years old, at least). I'd pay more for stuff like audio commentaries, too.

I'm not optimistic about that, but a boy can dream ... :)

Only if you just read the MacRumors listing of SOME of the Essential movies, and don't actually go to iTunes to see the entire list; which includes "Do the Right Thing", "Coming to America", "Frida", "Y Tu Mama Tambien", "Glory", "Crouching Tiger...", "Amores Perro"... and more.

I understand your sentiment, believe me.

But Apple music is also limited, there's tons of music I have that I can't find on Apple music, or spotify, or google play music.

Thing is, all these streaming things (be it apple music, netflix, spotify, amazon prime video etc.) are dependent on the publishers. Not to mention the arcane copyright and publishing laws, and the region blocking.

But still, looking at my own spending over the years, I'll take 15 (Apple music family) + 10 (Netflix) = 25 euro a month for whatever I can stream over having to buy it all separately. Been there, done that. Especially now with my kids growing older and being more interested, it's great being able to just show them tons of stuff. And yes, a lot is lacking, but there is also a lot to discover.

I support the artists, not necessarily the huge media conglomerates who have the artists by the balls ;)

But different strokes for different folks I guess. And that's okay. For instance for tv shows, I don't start watching a tv show until I know it has run its course and is properly finished. I learned that the hard way with a show called "Carnivale". I loved the first season, even got the DVD set, there was a second season and then it was cancelled without ever properly finishing. Not going to have that happen again. YMMV. But for instance "The Wire", I bought the dvd box of all the seasons.
