itunes library not showing imported songs after been reopened

I am having a problem since a couple of months. When I import songs to itunes, these songs do not show up into the library after itunes been closed and opened again. The songs appear in the itunes music folder, but in the library. Also a temp file is been created in the itunes folder each time itunes is been closed.
