Two things-

1. If your album is going to sell well, $10,000 for the supposed production fee is not much money, major label or indie.

2. Typical for an Apple release of new features, everything is blown out of proportion by 3rd parties.

iTunes LP

There is a fantastic iTunes LP by Tuesday Spoils, a great little band from Australia floating around the net atm.
LP's are indeed very pretty things!

Can we say DUHHH???

This guy who was freaking out about it being limited is a moron. This is the future of digital distribution for music, movies, print, you name it. OF COURSE THEY ARE GOING TO OPEN IT UP! Why does he think they used open standards to implement it? Can't he see that they are setting up the foundation right now?

All of Apple's products are going to revolve around this. The tablet will heavily revolve around this, Apple TV will surely see an update revolving around this, the iPhone, iPod Touch. This is the future of entertainment and I am VERY excited!!! :D

It is amazing to me that some people can't see the future even when it is literally sitting right at the door step already exposed!

If the future is in being handcuffed to iTunes... NO, thank you!

If the future is in online music distribution through an "open" interface... YES, please.

Being that Apple is really the only one that has succeeded at it, I'd say it makes sense that they are blazing the trail. That doesn't mean that they couldn't eventually release LP and Extras to an open standards body for it to replace CDs, DVDs, and BluRay. I think there is logic and strategy behind them basing it all on open standards. Image if Microsoft had their shot at it!

I'd be happy just to get a PDF of the liner notes.

True. And build the lyrics into the actual songs. If podcasts can put show notes into their enhanced podcasts, why can’t record labels put lyrics into their songs? You would think that would be a key advantage to digital music.

I'd love to get my hands on this format so I can turn my DVDs into iTunes LP files, with menus, special features and all.

The .dvdmedia filetype would be what you're looking for. My copy of RipIt exports to this new format, and I was able to open it right in DVD Player (in Snow Leopard at least).

Nice. I'll have to look into this a little more. At first glance it seems to be something like an .iso file. My real goal, though, is to get my DVDs (that means menus, not just the movies) into iTunes for organizational purposes and to be launched via Front Row. That's why I think that turning them into iTunes LP files would be effective. Speaking of iTunes LP and Front Row, do these LP files even work in Front Row?
