iTunes match help

i signed up for iTunes match, but now I'm confused, because my iTunes library is showing 10,000 something songs when i only had 8600 before. i don't get how iTunes match is working.

nvm i think i realized what it was. iTunes match downloaded all the songs i had ever bought that weren't on my iTunes as well. I figured out that any of the ones that had a download button on them before i even deleted them were songs i never had on my iPod/ iTunes. whew
