I purchased iTunes Match, and turned it on on my iPhone. I have smart playlists and music playlists in my iTunes library, for both TV shows and music. When I enable Match on my iPhone, ALL of the playlists are synced to the iPhone. How do I keep the smart playlists I use for TV shows from showing up on my iPhone?

This is something I could never figure out. iTunes match could be a really neat service, but there are just too many little frustrations and earlier this year I canceled the service. :(

I was going to say you can just delete them on the phone and this won't show up in iTunes.

Appeared to work but then my iTunes just updated and damn...I've lost a playlist, lucky I only have two.

That is weird behaviour. Maybe submit a report to Apple stating your dissatisfaction with this? See if they do anything, not likely but someone has to say something I guess.
