Movies

Ok here my take. I have an Apple TV and for the life of me I can't work out why the hell they put Synching and a hard rive on there (for movies and TV) photo's maybe.

Synching is so awkward , you have cant see all your content, if you choose only show those not watched then if one person watches a move or tv show it dissapears so another person in the family cant see it etc etc

I stream all my content and it works fine and I get access to 100% of my movies and TV shows both bought and recorded from EyeTV.

BUT if down the track they plan on allowing you to rent movies or buy TV & Movies direct from Apple TV THEN a hard drive make sperfect sense. It is obvious Apple have far more plans for Apple TV than they are letting on and they were smart enough to add everything they need at the start so in 6 months or 12months (hope its not that long) when they do upgrade to rentals or direct downloads everyone who has bought an Apple TV gets the new fetaures.

For years I used EYEHome to stream all my content to the loungeroom and EYEhome had no need for a hard drive.

Apple TV has lots in store for us I am sure

If move studios are stupid enough not to get on the bandwagon then I would rather have access to movie rentals of new release movies than no decent movies at all.

Just to be clear, when you say hi-def movies from Apple are you saying 720p or 1080p? Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are 1080p. If you have the rig that's the way to go. But 1080p is still high end most HDTV sets are either 720p or 1080i.

I could see Apple doing 720p movies since the AppleTV is capable of doing that, but they would have to come out with a whole new unit with 1080p abilities and a larger hard drive to compete with Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. I don't see that happening for at least two years.

I would be happy with 720p for the moment, especially if I'm renting the movie rather than buying it. I could always re-rent movies if they re-release them at a higher resolution later.

I certainly wouldn't buy movies right now at 480p or less, which has so far made :apple:tv a no go for me.
