iTunes movies: difference in format if bought on iPad?

Hello,

Referencing this Apple support article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1485

It says "Resolution: 720 x up to 480 pixels" under "bought on iPad, etc.".

And for "bought directly on computer" it says "Resolution: 640 x up to 480 pixels".

Why the difference in resolution?
