Itunes movies in the cloud?

I see that 2 of my movies are in the cloud. These were digital copies. I was just wondering if I could copy my dvd and import it into the cloud to stream later?
Also, what format video can I stream to the new apple tv? MKV? M4V?
Do these need to be imported into itunes?

no, that would be too easy for people to pirate and get free digital copies.

MP4/M4V, and yes they need to be in your itunes library.
