I am using a 450 mhz powerpc g4. I can play dvds on it fine with no problems but when I try to play an itunes movie it skips. Also skips on quicktime and video and audio out of sync. I have all other programs closed. Does anyone know how to fix this or what the problem is? Why can i play dvds but not downloaded itunes movies?

The problem is your G4. Movies from iTunes are encoded in MPEG-4/H.264 and your G4 cannot handle the decompression fast enough. MPEG-2, the codec of DVDs, is far less compressed, thus they play just fine on a G4.

I was only using itunes and firefox, nothing else was using up the cpu or mem resoucres. everything seems to work fine with vlc.😕

1. Find the iTunes Store file that's skipping in the Finder.
2. Right-click on it, then from the pop-up menu choose to open it in QuickTime (i.e., not iTunes).
3. From QuickTime's Window menu, choose Show Movie Inspector.
4. Play the movie and see what's happening to the frame rate.

Somehow, iTunes is not running properly. It uses Quicktime for playback, but clearly QT is functioning properly. What does Activity Monitor report when you get the stuttering?

Some one told me to try
CTRL- Alt - Delete
start task manager
find itunes in processes
right click and change the priority to High
Now try
