I'm moving my family (6 computers plus tv/guest/stereo machines - mix of windows and mac) to iTunes since 5 of us have iPods and have to use it anyway. In the past I've had a server computer storing all the music, but as people moved to iTunes individually they've stopped using it.
I'm after a way to have mutliple concurrent users served from the single iTunes machine, where each user is able to use his or her ipod, add or remove songs from the library and generally stream music to either the tv or stereo. Is it possible to do this with the base iTunes library? I've read a lot about putting the iTunes database on a samba mounted server, but my gut feeling is that this is more of a 1:1 solution. I'm not too keen on having multiple people editing the same xml file at once, and I'm not sure how well the server will cope. My situation is similar to this guy, but my questions weren't answered in that thread.
Another question - in the past I've used browseamp + winamp to control the stereo setup. Is there an alternative for the mac? The browser interface for VLC is horrible and I'd rather not give full vnc access. I'm leaning towards free alternatives, as well.
