Can anyone please help. I keep having problems with the music on my iPhone5 (iOS 8.1.2). My music is there but the tracks are greyed out...

When I open iTunes on my MacBook my music is there...

When I attach my iPhone and look at the Device content, only a fraction of my music appears...

When I go into Settings in iTunes I can tick to sync all my music, but it still doesn't appear on my iPhone.

Any suggestions please?

In Settings, iTunes & App Store:

Enable Use Cellular Data

or if you don't want to use Cellular Data...

While you are connected to a WiFi network download the songs you want by use the cloud to the right of them.

1)
go to iPhone
settings
genral
usage
storage
manage storage
music
try deleting all the music and resync

2)
go to iPhone
go iTunes store
more
downloads
see if there are any downloads there you can stop and retry manually
if you see any circles with squares in the middle and it shows no indication that the song is downloading
try hitting that circle multiple times until it starts to download again

3)
ensure iTunes match is not on
settings
music
check to make sure iTunes is off

iTunes match is also located
settings
itunes & app store
iTunes match off

4)
sign out of iTunes on the phone and on again
settings
itunes & app strore
apple id
signout

5)

uncheck sync music on itunes
sync
unplug iphone
reboot iphone
plug in iphone
wait for backup to be made
check sync music on iTunes
click on sync

6)
backup erase and restroe

7)
backup dfu erase and restore

the other guy said cellular data , but it didn't look like a cellular data issue to me

i had iTunes match on and cellular data and i could still play music and none of my music was greyed out.
i could still play it
i just couldn't download it from the cloud while using cellular cuz the carrier can restrict this., so thats why i posted those things to try

A belated thank you for the replies. Im still experiencing a few issues but I'm working my way through the above suggestions.

Well after lots of trying I'm still experiencing problems. I believe that the music is doesn't appear to be stored on my iPhone5, despite synching with iTunes on my macbook.

itunes has changed over recent months and I need to get familiar with it again, but when I connect my iPhone it says that only 6 songs are on my phone.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong?
