Uninstall third party plug-ins might help

Exactly the same happened to me, the exact same error message.
Do you have any third party iTunes' plug-ins installed?
I had the Qloud plug-in installed. It synchronizes my iTunes library with my Facebook page. I trashed the whole Qloud folder, and I opened iTunes without a problem.
I found that folder here: /Users/username/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins

other than having acted like new?
