Sorry, what do you mean? In what way are Red Book Audio CDs compressed?

I think what vandalism means is that CD's are compressed digital music on a disc much like an MP3.

Example: Most pro audio studios record their music in uncompressed high quality 24 bit depth audio. This audio sounds the best and provides the source for all formats. To get this music onto a CD, the data is compressed to 16 bits, as that is the format audio CD's accept.

It is essentially a digital audio file, but one with more bits and quality, though the differences are getting smaller.

The really interesting part will come when 24 bit audio can be converted successfully into a decent file size, and distributed via the internet.
