This method isn't as simple as blueroom's suggestion, but if you just wish to use the external hd:

Just copy and paste your iTunes folder to the external hard drive.

To get to your Music folder:

-On your desktop, go up to the top and click the menu "Go" and click "Home"
-Double click Music
-Right click iTunes and click "Copy"

Then go into your external hdd and click paste.

Let it transfer (may take a while). Now you can use on any other computer. Remember that iTunes has to be updated to the latest version on each computer in order to listen to your music (and authorized if you have purchases).
