iPod touch iTunes only shows two iPhoto folders

I noticed yesterday that all the photos had vanished from my touch. I plugged it into my mac and selected the 'photos' tab in iTunes and, although it shows twenty odd iPhoto folders, itunes thinks only two of them have photos and therefore will only sync those photos.

If I select "sync all photos" it still thinks my iPhoto library has just a dozen pictures.

If I go into iPhoto, all 2000 photos are there, in their respective folders.

Any ideas anyone?!
