Sorry if this is wrong place to ask but could not find a iTunes forum..
Bought hubby a ipod for birthday..he already has music on his windows PC, if he downloads iTunes will his music be copied into it thus making more files and taking up space ..ow will iTunes just index the music he already has?
Thanks :)

There's checkboxes in the iTunes preferences that let you choose what happens:
Keep iTunes media folder organized.
and
Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library.

Leaving both those unchecked will leave his music where it is, and not copy the files to the music folder.

I'm not sure what happens if you subscribe to Apple Music with a setup like that though. So far I've been unwilling to trust my library to the company for $10 a month, or even for free.

Not familiar with iTunes on Windows, part I'm sure that iTunes won't just "see" his music. He will have to import it all into iTunes, but using the options that Patron22 gives.

iTunes should just index the current music, it will give the option to 'find music on computer' when you first open it up. This article goes into a bit more detail, though I didn't see a conclusive answer........ might be something to test out.
