USB devices seem to be the issue

As a troubleshooting step, try unplugging all devices from your machine to see if one of them is the culprit.

I tried the advice of landofiz, and it seems to work so far: I'm using Time Machine with a USB Hard Drive, and once I unplugged the drive, the iTunes plays normally. Before that, it was stopping every few minutes, and I needed to pause/play or move thru the track to get the sound back.

I'm using iTunes 10.5.1 on MBA 1,6GHz and Mac OS X 10.5.8, playing on my stereo thru Airport Express.

This happens to me as well on a macbook air 11" 2010. Nothing is plugged in.

I am using an airport express, but it's happened even when only playing on the built in speakers.

same problem

Experienced this problem recently too. It occurred with itunes and logic when going through the headphone socket or built in speakers.

I have a nio interface I use for recording into logic and the problem went away completely when outputting through that.

Thought it might be a hardware problem as my mac is about 5 years old now but it seems like some of you are having problems on very new computers.
very annoying and baffling.

I have the same problem. iTunes sound just stops, but the song keeps playing, if I PAUSE it and unpause it the sound starts again... this does this with blue tooth on, I also put it in airplane mode, and "moon" mode to make sure it was not any stupid notifications...still did it. I will try using a wire and see if it does it that way. I think it does because when this started happening before I thought it was just the wire. SO FRUSTRATING!!!! I really am beginning to hate iTunes and Apple stuff, cant they fix this junk? My Android has no problems... Sorry I said the "A" word. ;-) iTunes on my Macbook Pro does the same freakn thing through BlueTooth. I think it is a bluetooth problem?

I've had this problem on my iPhone's since about IOS 6. The songs cut out somewhere before the end of the song, or sometimes a new song will start playing at the end of the previous song (the original song is still displayed and shows the last minute or so of it should be playing, but it's a different song). The music is fine on my iMac, and my iPad, it just happens on my iPhone. It's happened consistently with the last 3 iPhones that I've owned. Even starting with a fresh iPhone setup (not restoring from backup) or a clean MacOS install and building a new library, the problem persists on the iPhone only. Yeah, this among many other odd problems that have been happening are making me rethink my Mac/Apple alignment.
