iTunes SD and HD Show as one file... How?

When a show is downloaded that has both a SD and a HD version both are downloaded, but somehow iTunes is linking the files so that only one listing appears in itunes for both versions. How are they doing this? I would love to implement this for my apple tv and ipod rips, I do not want each movie listed twice on my apple tv or really in itunes. Anyone figure it out yet?
