iTunes showing multiple entries for same song, same file

In iTunes, when I display duplicates, I'm getting a listing of 16 songs (2 instances each of 8 songs). When I do "get info" on them, the information is exactly the same, except for the "Last played" field. On 5 of the duplicate songs, one version shows it's been played multiple times and the last played date. On the "duplicate" version it shows 0 plays and "Not available" for the last played date. The other 3 songs haven't been played, so there's no differences I could find. I've searched for this problem, but haven't found anything that addresses this particular scenario. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I'm running iTunes 10.5.2 on a 17" MacBook Pro.
