Following online instructions, I was finally able six months ago to convert my 4,1 Mac Pro to a 5,1 system. Everything worked fine for months and I planed to just stay at High Sierra, but had a few small issues so I bought a metal vid card and went to Mojave. At that time I also installed a USB 3.1 PCI card to use for Time Machine backups.
Immediately after Mojave install I noticed iTunes playback was awful. This is through the system speaker, audio out port, headphone port, and the fiber optical output (going through DAC to high end stereo system).
Googled forums to learn more and tried changing certain audio settings. The issue improved but is still there.
It does not appear to transfer over to iPhone or iPod as a song that is messed-up on Mac will play fine when reload on other devices.
Also noticed problem appears with iHeart radio, but not jango.com or Accu.radio.
Looking now at either completely reloading Mojave or going back to High Sierra.
I cannot imagine this is a complicated problem. Lots of people report sound problems but this issue seems to get mixed in with some sort of PowerBook speaker crackle. This is just distorted playback of all songs in my library, including new ones.
