iTunes Sound

I was wondering what the maximum number of audio channels iTunes can support. I have the Bose Companion 5 speakers, which are 5.1 surround. Does iTunes currently support surround sound, and if not, when do you think this feature will arrive?

I think it's more determined by what the audio/video codec supports. iTunes will support whatever the file itself does.
