I didn't see an iTunes Store Forum, so this seemed like the best place for this.

Anyway, a week or so ago I bought and downloaded, to a laptop, Season 1 of the TV series The Wire, which I had never watched.

It was $9.99 for the entire first season - about 15 episodes..,

At that time.., all the remaining seasons were also $9.99 each.

I thought it was okay, and today figured i would buy season 2.

In the iTunes Store, tons of older TV shows are still $9.99 a season.., but now The Wire is $29.99 per season.

I am wondering if this is some sort of scam - they see you bought season 1.., and then figure if you come back looking for more of it.., you might be hooked.., and so they raise the price. Actually they triple the price!

Am i Wrong to think this?

Prices change all the time on the store. Sometimes for a day or week.

I use an app called cheap charts. Allows you to track pricing and purchase when at the lowest price.

It’s not a scam they just don’t really stay on sale for long.

I add films to my wishlist and check it a few times a week for best prices :)
I've never bought a TV series though as i've never really watched TV like that.
Keep checking price wise especially during the week up to Black Friday :)

Prices change weekly and sometimes daily. You can find a lot of great deals on the Blu-ray.com forum. I have bought several tv show seasons and series from that forum at a fraction of the iTunes price. I think I paid $20 pr $25 dollars for the entire "The Wire" series, along with $20 for the "Sopranos."

I also use an app called TunesGenie, that keeps me abreast of the latest daily sales from the iTunes Store.

The whole series is discounted today in the UK at least maybe in the US too

As already mentioned prices change all the time, the $9.99 price was probably just a limited time price which is why they’ve increased since.

You may be interested to know you can in fact get an iTunes code for the complete boxset for $15 which will save you a considerable amount.

not sure what this code is - is it a discount code that you enter in itunes when buying the series?

iTunes digital copy code that comes with the Blu-ray boxset.
Redeem into iTunes just as you would with movie digital codes and it gives you the complete boxset without having to buy it from the store.

i don't know anything about this - i never buy movies or tv shows...

this was an exception.

it sounds like what you are saying is that if you buy an actual physical DVD, you sometimes also get a code that allows you to download whatever is on that DVD - is that right?

will there be any sort of problem using that code in itunes because i already own, and downloaded, season 1?

The Code is for a COMPLETE SERIES. it may say you already own part of The Wire...would you like to continue? and you will be fine.

If you purchase a Bluray copy you will get 3 redemptions your digital content. one for VUDU, one for iTunes, one for GooglePlay (also viewable on YouTube). You can redeem all three for the 3 streaming partners or just one. You can buy a code for a single streaming partner and not worry about the rest.

The Wire digital code for iTunes may run you between $10-25 depending on the seller. or you could even get all three portions for $20-40...should you want a copy in 3 different places. (I think I have seen a high of like $60 but at that point I'd just wait on a sale on iTunes)

i bought that code - but i was out of the usa, and it said not to redeem it unless i was in the usa.

anyway, i am home now.

so, do i just go to the itunes store and proceed as if i want to buy the whole season - that is do i select "buy".., and put in the code at the payment stage?

i don't want to end up getting charged the $79.99 for the season

thanks
it looks like it worked.
itunes assigned the 13 episodes i bought to "season 1"
and it also created a new "season 0" which has 76 episodes.., most of which have a title something like "season 3 episode 4", but includes the season 1 shows.
there appear to be a few episodes that are only 2 min long and are not part of any season - maybe they are trailers or something?

Those mini "episodes" may just be a recap, trailer, or behind the scenes.
