With Apple soon to be launching DRM free downloads at a high bitrate I thought I'd see what people are missing to make the iTS their only stop for media content.

    My list is the following:

    - DRM
    - CD quality bitrate (if they are really using the original masters this should even be better than a Lossless rip of a CD)
    - 720p video content
    - 5.1 discrete surround sound
    - wide-screen content
    - movie rentals
    - bigger movie selection
    - bigger tv show selection

I have a feeling that we will see a bigger movie and tv show selection this year. There also have been rumors about movie rentals and 720p will come, to really make use of the Apple TVs HD functionality.
I just wished they'd start with offering all the regular wide-screen content instead of letterboxing it.

I don't think I'd shop anywhere else if the iTS had all that.

Not really. The original masters have to be dropped down to 16-bit/44.1kHz before encoding to AAC anyway, so these tracks will be the same quality as if you ripped a CD at 256kbps yourself.

Why would it? AAC has a range from 8kHz to 96kHz and I am pretty sure it supports more than 16-bit too.

The elimination of 'View Album' or 'Album Only'.

    That is all.

Because if you're going to increase the amount of raw data in the file and not increase the bitrate to match, you're really not accomplishing an increase in quality. To be appreciably better than 16 bit, 44.1kHz 128kbps AAC files, 256kbps files have to be the same sampling rate/size.

And honestly, there are precious few who can tell the difference between a CD and a higher detail master. Heck, the bulk of the population can't tell the difference between a 128kbps MP3 and a CD, so...

Well, I guess we will see how the quality is when they finally offer it. If it is enough, great, if not, oh well.

If they do put up HD downloads, I hope that they still have the option for SD, unless they use something that is very good for compression, or else I won't be able to download them in a reasonable ammount of time over my internet.
