So at lunch I did some work cleaning up my iTunes on my MacBook air. One of the things I did was delete a lot of unused and old playlists. When I look on my iPhone they're still listed. How long does it take for MacBook Air and iPhone to reconcile with one another and reflect the changes I've made? I even went in and updated some of the remaining playlists but the old ones still there in the original format.

You might need to delete them from your phone, although usually playlist on your phone will go away when iTunes side not having those deleted lists. When I delete playlists, I do so solely through iTunes, as playlist is the only thing I am using to sync music.
Sometimes however, that iTunes library on your phone is corrupted. It will reflect some changes but not all of them. Deleting the library and staring over usually fixes the problem nicely.

For most users, simply performing an action.…in the Music app on the iOS device…that would cause a sync will sync what was done iTunes. Something like deleting a playlist, deleting a song from a playlist, or adding a song to a playlist would suffice.

That's what I had done and it wasn't syncing. No clue what the issue is when I got home the changes still showed on the MacBook but not the phone till I plugged it into the MacBook to sync.
