Is it possible to update a song's track # in line, rather than having to right-click and go through "Get Info"? I can click on Name, Artist, and Album and the field becomes editable. I have a large number of songs for which I need to fill in the track #, so going through right-click...Get Info will take a while.

If you Get Info on the first track, you can enter the track number, then click Next to go to the next track. The cursor stays in the last field you edited, so you can easily type 1 - Next - 2 - Next - 3 ...

Doug's AppleScripts won't change the way iTunes functions. If, however, you have the track numbers in the filenames, there are scripts that can auto-populate tag information from filenames.
