You need to unlock your XS when connecting to iTunes to give permission for iTunes to access your phone.

But yeah, go back to Android.

Don't feel bad (or good) about "hating apple". It comes with the territory. At some point we've all had that same emotion. It's normal. Maybe "hate" is a too strong word, but "very frustrated" fills the bill quite aptly.

And we'll all guess what version of iTunes you think you're using, and whether that version even knows what an XS is.

If iTunes is not up to date, it will have problems connecting and seeing your XS, even though it can see your 6S.

What's your OS? XS requires 10.11+ for Macs. Also check antivirus/ad-blockers.
