Hi,
I have factory unlocked iPhone 4 that is jailbroken and on 4.0.1. Now I wanted to upgrade to 4.1 using limerain but when I first try to restore to 4.1 using the shift+restore iTunes tells me right after the "verifying iphone restore with apple" message: "The iPhone "xxx" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194)."
I also tried downloading the firmware from another source but it still says the same message.

You need 4.1 shsh to restore to that.
If you don't have those blobs saved you can only restore to the latest firmware version.

you can't restore to anything other than 4.2 if you don;t use TinyUmbrella.

As you are jailbroken, I will assume you let Cydia make your life easier by storing your SHHs.

Look up a guide on how to use TU to restore to an older firmware.
