ITunes is failing to open. When I attempt to download a new one at
or

I get the error message
"This update requires macOS version 10.13.99 or earlier."
or if I try to download the support.apple.com macOS iTunes available I get the error message
"A newer version of iTunes is already installed."

It boggles my mind that you dont let new macs download your latest versions of ITunes.

So how do I get around this? Is there any way I can get a new one?

iTunes is not part of Catalina. Now there are separate music and video apps.

I don't think I am using Catalina. I'm using Mojave.

What is the solution? I can't download iTunes.

Download the 10.14.6 full installer from the Mac Apps Store and run it. It might reinstall iTunes for you again.

EDIT: Suggest that you remove iTunes from running the installer.

Agree with Taz above.

If the installer won't run from your hard drive once downloaded, you may need to create a USB flash drive installer and re-install that way.
Easiest way to do that is to use "DiskMaker X" which is free (be sure to download the right version).

Then boot from the flashdrive installer and do the re-install.
Doing this WILL NOT damage any of your personal files or 3rd party apps.
It will just put a "clean copy" of the OS in place, with all the Apple-original apps (which includes iTunes).

Hmmm.... just thought of what could be an easier way (if it works):
Download the 10.14.6 "combo updater" from here:

Then, just "apply it against" your existing installation.
That may get things going again.
(no promises, but worth a try)
