every now and then itunes refuses to quit, itll go away for a second then pop right back up. I have to reset to get it to stay gone any help? as far as i know its the latest version

you can force quit an application by pressing cmd+opt+escape.

As to why iTunes does that, is it downloading any podcasts or anything?

Are you using any other program to control iTunes? For example a widget, or a menu controller program. In the past I was using a Yahoo widget the would restart iTunes each time I would quit iTunes. I had to stop the widget before I could stop iTunes.

I've had this problem as well
it seems to be an issue with importing from a cd, Was importing any cds when it happened, every time it's happened to me i've imported at least 2 cds before quiting it.
if you just want to quit it but can't and you are still going to keep your computer on for a while, just press quit on it a may times as possible, the window eventually won't show but it will be open!😕

This appears to be the most common reason for iTunes behaving like this.
