iTunes won't recognize my iPhone when plugged in

Talk about dumb users! I'm now in the club. In case this applies to you: make sure that your iTunes is not in the iTunes Store. If it is, you won't see your iPhone. It took me a while to figure out how to get out of the store (nice going, Apple:mad:)--There's a Windows-like x at the top left.

I hate the fact that Macs make all windows look the same (that sliver-grey). I can hardly distinguish one window from another. And it's absurd that iTunes Store takes up the whole screen and can be confused with iTunes, as I did.

I got this phone 2 months ago and have never had a problem plugging it into my MacBook and using iTunes. Now I just plugged it in to the USB multiple times and nothing is happening. The phone isn't even lighting up and iTunes isn't opening or acknowledging it at all. What's the problem?

so dude, what did u do then. my 3g is dying apple logo blinking cant start up, doesnt connect to laptop at all.
any advise?

Me To

i just pluged in my 4s in to my windows 7 laptop and it charges and my computer detects it but itunes dosnt :apple::apple::mad::mad:

Follow theses steps and see if it helps.

1. Open Finder and look for the iTunes in Applications folder
2. Move the folder and the iTunes icon to the Trash
3. Open Go and type Go to Folder.
4. Type /System/Library/Extensions and hit return.
5. Find AppleMobileDevice.kext and move it to the Trash.
6. Similarly move AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg file to the trash
7. Restart the computer
8. Reinstall iTunes and see if the iPhone is detected.

Think I've got it

I too have been having problems getting my partners phone to connect to itunes or even be recognised by my computer i wanted to back up an iphone 3g to reinstall all data onto her new 4s. After browsing the web for hours i tackled the problem myself and heres what i got.

Click on show hidden icons on lower right of taskbar.
Right click on icon for safely remove media then open devices and printers
at bottom of next page there should be an icon for apple mobile device usb driver. Open this.
click hardware tab then open properties
then click change settings
Driver tab - update driver if this doesnt work you may need to click disable device and then enable device and retry the update driver stage using browse my computer for driver software.
I really hope this helps as it worked for me. Good luck.

iTunes won't recognize my iPhone when plugged in

What worked for me, was that I realized I hadn't Restarted since the last update, so I first checked for new versions, found that there was one, downloaded it, then Restarted, and when I opened iTunes the Devices section was again visible on the LH sidebar, and I could synch like normal

This worked for me

I'm running OSX 10.8.2, iTunes 10.7 on a several year old 27" Intel iMac and iTunes quit recognizing both my iPhone 4 and 1st gen iPad. After hours searching Google and the forums with no good results, I simply downloaded and reinstalled iTunes. It's been working fine for several days now so I think that did the trick.

A bit more detail for those interested. Everything was working fine when I went to bed a few nights ago. I leave my iMac running all the time with iTunes running as well, as I sometimes like to use home sharing to listen to music or watch a movie when I got to bed. When I got up the next morning, the iMac had shutdown. Don't know why. It rebooted fine but iTunes would no longer see my devices. Tried plugging them into my MBP and it recognized them OK, so was pretty sure the problem was in the iMac. Also, when I went into the iTunes preferences and clicked on Devices, there was nothing there either. All the backups seemed to be gone as well. Once I reinstalled iTunes the backups showed up again. Hope this helps someone else with the problem.
